More wings: Another chicken wing chain eyes the Tacoma area, plus TNT Diner ...

Last week, I wrote about the national chain Buffalo Wild Wings joining Winger's near the Tacoma Mall . Considering Hooters is located a short distance away, it appears that particular neighborhood is gearing for total wing domination of Tacoma. I'm planning on calling that area The Wing Vortex.

But wait! Now it appears another wing chain called Wingstop is headed here, only this one is eyeballing Tacoma for a location, plus the 'burbs. Here are a few excerpts from the email I got from Wingstop, "Wingstop .... one of the nation’s fastest-growing chicken wing chains, has announced a development agreement to open 15 restaurants in Seattle-Tacoma. The company, which has 480 locations .... recently signed a franchise agreement to open its first restaurants in the city. The restaurants will be operated by Emerald Sound Wings, LLC of Sammamish, Wash., with the first location scheduled to open in early 2012. .... With a sole focus on cooked-to-order chicken wings, the Wingstop menu features traditional and boneless wings sauced and tossed in nine proprietary flavors including Original Hot, Lemon Pepper and Garlic Parmesan, and side dishes like fresh-cut, seasoned fries."

I emailed with company spokeswoman Leah Templeton, and she indicated the suburbs are a more likely home for the chain. She wrote, "To follow up on my earlier email, Wingstop is currently evaluating specific areas of Tacoma, but Lakewood and Puyallup are the areas of initial focus and ideal locations for a Wingstop restaurant."

So enough about chain restaurants. I asked TNT Diner readers to recommend local restaurants for chicken wings, and here are what they suggested. Do you have a favorite local place for wings? Comment here, please.

From Rocco_C: The Rock WFP - Chipotle Wings: "These wings are baked (can be fried on request). They have a good smokey flavor with moderate heat."

From steilacoomtaxpayer: " The Fan (Club Sports Bar ) has the absolute best wings around. They are from large chickens and are only (the) drummets pieces. Cooked in a broaster. Yeow! I recommend ordering sauce on the side ("naked", in that house)."

From pegsterdowntown: "I agree Pacific Grill has wonderful wings. There are 2 places that have not been mentioned here and I believe they have the best wings around. First place is the Food Court at the B & I (hard to believe) The Tea House Restaurant has the best garlic wings I have tasted. The second place is the Mountain Tavern on the corner of 56th and Pacific Avenue. I recommend going on Friday or Saturday. The Mountain Tavern has a Broaster which cooks the wings wonderfully. They strain their oil every night and the new oil is changed on Thursday night. Try these 2 places and please let me know what you think. I have got quite a few people hooked on the wings at the B & I. You have to like garlic because they are very garlicky.
