Yes, the DigitalStream and Humax "Freeview+ HD" recorders are HDD-only, without DVDR. Digital recorders designed primarily for subscription services (e.g. Virgin and Sky) won't allow you to dub programmes recorded from subscription TV stations to a DVDR - but they all allow dubbing from free TV stations ; therefore for Freeview and Freesat recorders, that's everything they'll record. The consensus of several shops' websites is that the DigitalStream recorder includes an HDMI lead and a Scart lead in-the-box, so don't yield if a sales assistant tries a "suggestive sell" of one as a £20 sundry ! Because these carry digital signals, if the HDMI lead you have works at all, a different one cannot give better quality . The same doesn't apply to leads for analogue signals (e.g. Scart) but as you'll need one only if dubbing to a VCR/DVDR you can wait to see if the included Scart lead satisfies or not. I bought this and the previously-mentioned Toshiba Regza at £329 from J.Lewis yesterday to be delivered Mon. I wasn't over-impressed with the picture but its probably as good as you'll get [as the sales assistant agreed] for the money. He tinkered around with the colour and sharpness and 'mode' [ back-lit etc] to some effect but it was obvious that a pricey tv with HD playing was streets ahead! I shall give it a go and if frustrated by picture quality will possibly upgrade in the 30 days allowed. The WF100 cables from satcure are specially constructed as the connector end of cable wire is soldered to the connector plug for a solid secure fitting. While the Argos cables are moulded plugs, the satcure ones are soldered. Other home distribution kits may require us to get the end of cable wire into the plugs and then tested. These aren't as securely fitted and I can't recommend these for Freeview testing at all.
